Building Office

The Building Department of Pomfret issues permits for all new construction, alterations, remodeling, additions, renovations, temporary structures, decks, storage buildings, and some repairs. Pomfret is regulated by State codes officially known as the "Connecticut State Building Codes". Most permits noted above are issued after approvals from Planning, Zoning, Inland Wetlands and Health Departments.

Today's Building Department operates under State Building Codes, established by law in 1972, which superseded any and all local town building ordinances. The "State of Connecticut Building Code" is amended and updated by State legislation as requested by the State Building Department. The current State Building Code was updated and adopted into law in December 2005 and again updated for August 2009.
