The Selectmen's Office is responsible for scheduling three Bulky Waste Disposal events throughout the year.  These 2 - day events are typically scheduled early in the calendar year and take place in the spring, summer, and fall.

Pomfret residents also have options to use the Town of Woodstock Transfer Station (limited number of annual permits issued) and the Town of Brooklyn Transfer Station on a 'pay as you go' basis.

Refer to Trash Disposal/Transfer Stations for more information regarding these two options.

Each Bulky Waste event takes place on a Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Pomfret Murdock property on Route 101.

These events are for Pomfret residents only and for material originating in Pomfret.  Licenses and/or vehicle registrations will be checked. There is no fee.

Bulky Waste saves the citizens of Pomfret money and sustains the environment in the process.  Many of the large items are able to be recycled including metal, mattresses, appliances, tires, propane containers, light bulbs, cardboard and paper - plus we continue to recycle household recyclables.

Also available at the site is the Green Team sponsored SWAP SPOT - for items too good to be trashed.  Look for this area after passing our friendly residence check!

Household garbage is not accepted at these collections!

Pomfret also schedules Household Hazardous Waste Collections every other year or as approved in the annual budgets.  When these events are scheduled a notice will be posted on the home page of our website.
