Treasurer

Welcome to the Town Treasurer’s Office which is located in the Pomfret Town Hall.  The Town of Pomfret is unique in that the Town Clerk and Assistant Town Clerk are also the Town Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer, respectively.  The Town Treasurer is elected every two years and is a completely different position from that of the Town Clerk which is elected every four years.  The Deputy Treasurer is appointed by the Treasurer and has the authority to carry out all the duties of the Treasurer in his/her absence.

The combination of the Treasurer’s and Town Clerk’s offices has worked well for the Town of Pomfret.  The Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Board of Education and all other boards and commission of the Town have the convenience of requesting information and reports on a daily basis, if needed, and coordinating their financial needs with the Treasurer’s Office during all office hours.  We are here daily to answer any questions and concerns that the citizens may have regarding the financial operations of the Town.  The Town Clerk & Treasurer’s Office is open all hours that the Town Hall is open:  Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed Friday.

The Treasurer is responsible for receiving all moneys belonging to the Town of Pomfret and paying out, on the order of the proper authority, the obligations of the Town.  This office is also responsible for the recording of all moneys received and expended, for what, on whose authority, to whom, when, and how much, which shall always be open for inspection to the taxpayers of the Town.  The Treasurer is responsible to report to the taxpayers at the annual town meeting on all moneys received and expended during each fiscal year.

The Town Treasurer’s Office is also responsible for coordinating and executing documents for bonding upon the approval of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and the taxpayers of Pomfret at town meeting.  Our office works hand in hand with the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance to uphold the annual budget approved at annual town meeting, follow the generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) in the State of Connecticut, and comply with the approved financial policies and procedures of the Town.

The Treasurer is responsible for the financial recording and accountability of all Town funds, including the trust funds that have been placed with the Town.  Investing of all town funds is also the responsibility of the Town Treasurer.
