Trash Disposal and Transfer Station Information

Pomfret residents have a number of trash disposal and recycling options in addition to the commercial trash haulers.

The Town of Woodstock offers 50 transfer station permits to Pomfret residents.  The annual permit is $270 and will be offered on a first come, first serve basis and covers disposal of household trash and recycling options.  Additional fees apply for bulky waste items.

The Town of Brooklyn is also opening their transfer station to outside residents.  This is a 'pay as you go' program - bags can be purchased for disposal of household trash and a large number of bulky-type items will be accepted at varying fees per item.

Pomfret's new transfer station at Nora Lane has replaced the town's previous bulky waste events.  The transfer station will be open free of charge to Pomfret residents. The 2026 dates are: April 3 and 4; May 8 and 9; June 5 and 6; August 1; September 5; October 2 and 3.  This new location will not accept household trash but will accept residential bulky waste and offers recycling for many items including mattresses, electronics, white goods, textiles, and used motor oil.

Pomfret also participates in a regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection every other year.
