Annual Town Meeting - May 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM - Budget Questions to Referendum

meeting

The Annual Town Meeting remains scheduled on May 14th at 6:30 PM with eight items on the Call.  Article 7 and Article 8 have been petitioned to a referendum - the budget for the Board of Education and the budget for the General Government.  Those items can be discussed, however they cannot be altered in any way and will be voted on a referendum to be scheduled later today by the Board of Selectmen at a Special Meeting that is scheduled before the Annual Town Meeting.  The referendum must be scheduled not less than 7 days and not more than 14 days after the Annual Town Meeting.  Scheduling is complicated as it cannot be held at Pomfret Community School while school is in session.  It can be held on Saturday, however the only eligible Saturday is on Memorial Day weekend.  It will be scheduled sometime in the required timeframe - most likely at the Community Center.  The Board of Selectmen will announce the date, time, place, and wording of the questions this evening at the Annual Town Meeting.  Absentee ballots will be available sometime next week.

The Annual Town Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Pomfret Community School.  Mark your calendars to attend this time-honored New England tradition.  Comment, question, and vote on items of town business and the proposed FY 2026/2027 General Government and Board of Education budgets.
