July 4th Celebration
POMFRET CELEBRATES JULY 4TH WITH A READING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
AND A JAMBOREE IN HISTORIC ABINGTON VILLAGE
On July 4th at 3 PM the church bells will begin to toll at the historical Abington Congregational Church ( c. 1751), calling Pomfret citizens and visitors to attend the reading of the Declaration of Independence. The readers will portray local historical characters who will reflect upon how the Declaration of Independence influenced them and their contributions to the evolution of the American Dream. Characters will include:
- Thomas Grosvenor portrayed by direct descendant, Ashley Danenhower who will be dressed as Hannah Grosvenor, the daughter of Thomas Grosvenor.
- Israel Putnam portrayed by Kenneth Noll
- Prudence Crandall portrayed by Donna Dufresne
- Alethia Lord portrayed by Emma Howe.
Following the Reading and Reflection there will be a musical JAMBOREE and celebration of local agriculture at We-Li-Kit Ice Cream.
Renburke’s Ramblers and other musicians will play from 4 – 6pm.
